That may just be MY opinion, but I'm SURE Danielle and Celia would back me up on this (and Kevin, too, but he lives three hours away)- Jake, maybe, even. So can I, like, start a petition or something?? lol

Hey everybody it's DJ. I am 16 years old, well I will be 17 in about 3 weeks. YAY! Which means my mom is finally going to let me get my license, double YAY! Anyways, my real name is Donna Jean, UGH I know. My name is more fitting for an older woman, who lives in Arkansas and plays BINGO every Wednesday. This summer I have read a lot of James Patterson, and also a couple of other books by Ted Dekker and Mary Higgins Clark. If you haven't noticed I love thriller, mystery stories. Well I guess that is it about me.

Today for our meeting, we had a guest come from Downtown, by the name of Helma Hawkins. She works with Youth Services for the library, and she shared information about her involvement in various LGBT groups in the area. She mentioned PFLAG, or Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, as well as Passages. PFLAG is a support and education group, geared toward the friends and family of LGBT. Their website, www.pflag.org, displays information about what they do, and the other things they're involved in, like programs in your area.

And the other group mentioned, Passages, is an LGBD group in the KCMO area focusing on being a social, accepting place, and they also give information and support. Their website, www.kcpassages.org, gives the current meeting dates, as well as their mission statement and other information.

Helma also discussed the newsletter group, GLSEN, and helped our group with ideas for advocacy in our area.

We learned of a LGBT streetfair, PrideFest, taking place on October 1st. We also began to plan events for the month of October, which is LGBT History Month. We decided a party, perhaps a Halloween party for LGBTs, would be a good idea. We'll also give info about historic moments in LGBT history.

So that's the overall coverage of today's meeting. For anyone who missed it, or showed up late. Hope you can make it to the next meeting!!!

Tokyopop has updated and revamped their website. The main page looks great and is loaded with new stuff to check out. And though these changes have been made for the greater good, I'm frustrated because I can't find the Manga Players. Remember these? They included various titles from which you could view several pages of the Manga. I've spent about 5 min searching for them and have given up. Has anyone else been able to find their new location on the site? I'm also curious if any of you have created a Tokyopop user profile. Let me know...

Have you ever gotten bored? With a can of Dust-off in the room? I have. One thing that is really fun is blowing out all the candles in the room with it.* I look to the left look to the right sinister smile creeping on to my face* I turn the can upside-down and spray my arm ,with the can of air , as a shot of pain goes up my arm with the wrath of a hateful burn.
If you are bored and don't care about pain and there is a can of Dust-off in the room... you won't be bored for long....

Hey everyone, this is Danielle!!! (shock, *gasp*, ooooh!)

I'm here to tell you what's happening tomorrow at our writer's club meeting (I can tell that you're excited) . To start off the meeting, we'll be doing another writing prompt-yayness! After everyone's done being forced to write whatever WE want (just joking) we'll let whoever wants to read their stuffs do it (hee hee-DO IT-hee hee). Moving on- when that's done with, we're all going to talk about, and then decide upon, whether we should start doing some book discussions and all that yummy stuff in our writing meetings. It'll be fun....I SWEAR (cue evil, maniacal laughter). All in all, that's our meeting for tomorrow- hope to see you all there!

We get to watch this anime called... uhh... *goes off to look* It's called 'Please Teacher.' There isn't an English website for it, but here's the info from animenewsnetwork.com - "Kusanagi Kei, a high-school student living with his aunt and uncle, has an encounter with a female alien. This alien is revealed to be a new teacher at his school. Later, he is forced to marry this alien to preserve her secrets. From there, various romantically-inclined problems crop up repeatedly." It's been previewed, and it actually quite funny.

Teen Summer Reading
June 1 - August 12
This summer we focus on endangered animals as well as other environmental concerns. Check out the WWF link and find out about the current state of the tigers, pandas, and other adorable but endangered speices. It's the same drill this year for summer reading, only with a few more perks. There's a certain unnamed teen who couldn't figure out what this image was. She thought it was dog? No, it is a crow. Anyway, here's the lowdown:

Sign up for summer reading at Trails West Branch Library
Read 12 hours.
Attend 3 teen library programs at Trails West.
Once completed, you'll receive a permission slip for the August 11-12 Teen Lock-In.

Prizes vary and are awarded by a point scale system just like they do at Cool Crest). 3hr=prize; 6hr=better prize; 9hr=even better prize; 12hr=best prize. Raffles will occur spontaneously throughout the summer. Just come on in and check out the teen area.

Goosebumps to Graphic Novel

Remember the popular horror series Goosebumps by R.L.Stine? And of course the follow-up Goosebumps tv series. Yea, so do I, especially The Haunted Mask. Pretty creepy, but pretty good. Well, Scholastic (publishers of Bone by Jeff Smith) has a Graphic Novel version of Goosebumps in the works. So, here's my question.

Do you think the production of this graphic series will have any effect on bookstore sales or library checkouts of the original version?

Fun Idea For The Group

Alright, I heard about this from my mom, who heard about this from the radio. This was a story on NPR (National Public Radio), and it's about how adding Mentos mints to a 2-liter bottle of Diet Coke makes the soda explode like ten feet in the air. I just thought that this was the perfect thing for teenagers. It's exploding things, but it doesn't injure anyone, and isn't illegal. March TAC Meeting Notes

Alrighty. This is our first post for TAC notes. So, if you were lazy and misssed the March meeting, take a lookie at what was covered. If you're not a TAC member but are interested in becoming one, check out our notes to see what actually transcribes during a TAC meeting.

Everyone participated in audioblogging. However, we deleted all tracks due to long silences and/or cursing. At least we figured out how to audioblog.
Members signed up for leadership in programs. Results will be posted soon.
It was voted that the bulletin board will temporarily be used for promoting programs. This will mean that we'll use posterboard to promote our book displays.
We created a new book display for the month of April. It was titled "Addicts Annonymous" and if you can't figure out what type of books went with this theme, then you are a mutant. It was decided that the theme for next month would promote summer reading and focus on the subject concerning endangered animals or animal rescue books.
Some members created demos for our teen library zine project that will be displayed this summer.

Harry and the Potters

@Central Library

Just yesterday, Kat and I were at the Harry and the Potters show in downtown KC at the Central Library. About 50 alternative rockers aged 12-15 occupied the front floor space with their rides (parents) sitting quietly in back, all patiently waiting for the band to finish their meal and get out on stage. Before the guys took the stage they opened up their merchandise booth and we saw people walking away with cds, t-shirts and toothbrushes. I have no idea why there were toothbrushes. The show opened with the band members, Harry Potter and Harry Potter, grabbing the mikes and wildly running through the crowd enthusing fans to get up and dance. So, the crowd danced. Because there were so many songs played, I only remember a few. (Kat you should blog about the songs and the crowd's reaction.) For the most part the songs lasted about 1.5 minutes. I've never heard this group before last Saturday and found the humor in their lyrics entertaining. Their performance was a bizarre spectacle and could be described as a mixture between a rock influenced Barney production and something resembling what you might see or hear at a Flaming Lips show. Though these two nuts were more entertaining than musically gifted, the crowd seemed to enjoy every bit of it.

The songs were mainly based off major events in the books, such as the first song, ''I Am A Wizard'', drawing from Harry getting his letter from Hogwarts. "The Bus Don't Go To Hogwarts" explained how you have to take the train instead. "Wizard Chess" described Harry's first Christmas at school, and playing chess with Ron before getting the Invisibility cloak and being invisible for Christmas. This was pretty much the case, going through each year of school and having songs for the crucial moments. "Oh my god, you look like a frog" was a line in a song about Umbridge, and another was about saving Ginny Weasley from Dean Thomas. Most songs evoked laughter from the audience, and regardless of the pair's mediocre singing, it was very cool. Also, some songs had some very awesome guitar rifts.

We're cookin' tacos! We don't have an oven so we'll substitute with Nachos. The recipe we'll use is from my G-ma and has been passed down through generations. G-ma grew up in Mexico in the 1940's and came to the States illegally. When I was a pup, she would speak of her childhood days in Mexico. She told of living a hard life and being poor. Shiny Button HappyFunTime!

Project:

Shiny Button Bracelets (Elastic bracelets with shiny button decorations)

To make one at home, you will need:

Enough 1/2 inch wide elastic to go around your wrist and overlap about 1/2 an inch; a selection of mother of pearl buttons or any flat buttons in preferred colors; needle and thread; scissors; at least half an hour of free time

Be aware that this project uses sharp needles, and there is a possibility of poking your finger and drawing blood.

Directions:
Thread the needle with about 2-3 feet of thread, and double it over before knotting the ends. Then overlap the ends of elastic and sew together, knotting when finished but not breaking thread. Begin to sew buttons onto elastic, taking needle up through one hole on button and down the other, repeating as much as needed. After adding 2-3 buttons, make knot inside bracelet , again not breaking thread. This is to prevent all your buttons coming off if the thread comes apart. Continue adding buttons until your bracelet is covered, then tie knot and cut thread. It may be necessary during sewing to tie off the thread and get more. Just rethread the needle and continue adding buttons.

Variations of project: Making a choker (using more elastic that can go around your neck); a belt (have enough elastic to go around your waist or hips, and don't sew the ends together, but add snaps or hook-and-eyes). Does anyone have any other ideas for this?

This was a pretty easy project, easy to understand and easy to do. I certainly had fun doing it, but what about you guys? Would we want to do this again, but with other button styles? Or maybe using a ribbon instead of elastic?

Smoke. Fire alarm. Fire truck and firemen. Pissed-off players. I can't believe all the chaos you guys had to handle. It sounded alot crazier than the last Yu-Gi-Oh Tournament.

You may have to shout or use snappy fingers to get my attention today. *yawn* Last night I went to a Barnes and Noble orientation. I thought "it'll only take a couple of hours to fill out paperwork and take the tour." This was at 6:30 pm.

However, 5 hours later I'm walking out the bn door to grab some grub. It turns out they had 3 callouts (3 people couldn't make it in to work) and desperately needed some last minute help. I thought hey no prob, which it wasn't, I didn't have anything planned last night anyway except for maybe some reading homework.

So I thought I'd let you know why if I'm a bit slow and groggy this afternoon at the chess program.

Just finished Balefire #2 last night 6:11 pm. Aisling and I were racing to be the first done. Childish? Who cares. Aisling came by and was around pg 90. I left work and picked up where i left off at pg 180. Hmmm. Haven't talked to Aisling yet but I'm pretty sure I won. Anyway about the books:

Due to both the popularity of Sweep and Tiernan's authoritative control of the wiccan-fantasy subgenre, her new series Balefire similarly revolves around more powerful kick-ass female witches battling against aggressive unseen forces. Twins Thais and Chloe don't know of each other's existence. Both have inherited their mother's birthmark and are strikingly similar in appearance, though thier personalities are quite different.

Thais (my fav of the two) is a responsible law-abiding youth while Chloe is most fashionable and does not bat an eye to take a risk. Due to extraordinary circumstances and a little magick, the twins are thrown together which causes a catalyst for dark magick in the hot city of New Orleans.

Do you see how many books are listed below? I hope you guys enjoy this service because I had to lug them around in bags 'till I found the post office. I have little arm muscles and lots o' fading bruises. Stephanie and I were so wiped from carrying such a heavy load that at the end of the day we just wanted to sleep (although we didn't).
